For the purposes of the program, Progressive Social Change is defined as activity that leads to:
Greater citizen empowerment and involvement
More effective institutions, particularly in, but not limited to, the government and social sectors
Greater accountability, mutual responsibility and transparency between and among individuals, organizations, movements and sectors (e.g. government, social and business)
More widespread prosperity via more equal opportunity and access
Examples of people who could serve as an Israel-based Mentor include a/an:
Academic doing research on a particular topic related to social change
Business person linking “doing good” with “doing well”
Reformer working to change some aspect of the political, social or business system/culture
Senior person at an NGO
Social entrepreneur pioneering an innovative solution to a societal problem
The Faculty Advisor can be a faculty member in any field who commits to help as needed to facilitate connections to possible Mentors, to shape the scope of work and to ensure active, deep reflection by the Applicant on her/his experience once they return from Israel.
